19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his initial championship for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court after March of the previous year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my children together, so to get a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to question if his skill to play at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

He rescued four early opportunities in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
